2014 Netgalley Reading Challenge – Sign Ups

2014netgalleychallenge I see Netgalley reading challenges all the time, but they are always monthly deals that come around at times when I just can’t participate. I couldn’t find one that spanned a whole year, so I decided to make one. So welcome to the first ever 2014 Netgalley Reading Challenge Signup post!

How it works

To sign up, just add your information to the linky list below. Afterwards, choose the difficulty level you want. Once January 1st, 2014 arrives, you can begin reading, any books read before will not count. You can continue to request galleys, or you can read the ones you already have. The point is to get your feedback ratio closer to the recommended 80%.

Every 3 months, I will be posting an update on my own challenge which will also serve as a giveaway post. I will be running 4 giveaways through the year as incentives to be hitting your goals! You must have a post about the challenge which displays which level you have entered for that tracks what books you have read toward that challenge in order to enter the giveaways. You can format the post however you want, but you must include the challenge banner at the top, your challenge level somewhere within the post (you don’t have to use the level graphics), and that has at the very least a list of which books you have read.

SUCH A GREAT IDEA!! =D I haven’t been on Netgalley for quite some time (trying to curb the addict to the Request button), so when I last visited and saw the recommended feedback ratio… BLEH, my figures are pretty far off from that! xD Signed up and hopefully we’ll reached the recommended 80.0% together! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful challenge!

    1. I’m horrible with monthly challenges, I need yearly ones so I wanted to do something. I’m at a measly 8.3% ratio. Gotta get that fixed. I think I have been declined for a few because of it alone, and of course it’s been on the ones I wanted to read the most. My TBR pile is just huge!

      Good luck!

I really need this 🙂 I’ve been avoiding Netgalley because I’ll be too tempted to request books. I have soooo many that I haven’t read yet, some I’ve had since last spring 😮

Thank you so much for hosting this! I’ve been looking for a challenge like this. That Request button is dangerous!

    1. It really is! I’ve gotten in the habit of adding them to a netgalley shelf on Goodreads so I know what I have and don’t have easily without having to log into the actual site. Logging in is dangerous enough because it makes me look at the newly added galleys! Good luck!

love it and I’m in. I’m have also entered an Ebook challenge, so i will up my goal so that I don’t use all of the same novels for both. Is that ok. your challenge was seen on Freda’s Voice blog

Ohy my gosh this is PERFECT for me. And yeah my ratio needs bumped up a lot. I’m pinning this to my reading challenges board, and I’ll come back and do a blog post.

  6. Linda Townsend

I need this challenge! Can we only participate if we have a blog? My ratio is currently 50% at NetGalley and I’d love to get it up to 80% or better.

    1. Nope, you can participate regardless. When you sign up, just link to whatever you want, you can link to your Netgalley or Goodreads profile if you want.

You just have to have a place to post the books you read somewhere if you want to enter the quarterly contests. This can be anywhere that can be linked though. A Facebook status (one person was planning on doing like a life event and just updating it), on a tumblr, I think you can do like, notes on Goodreads. So if you don’t have a blog, there are other options. One girl was talking about making a board on Pinterest to post all her covers and mini-reviews.

Will there be posts where we can link our reviews for the challenge? 🙂 I want to show off!

This is a great idea… Since they revealed the ratio (and how low mine is) I’m self concious about it to the point where I don’t want to request more books until I’ve read all the ones I’ve been given.

    1. I gave myself permission to request one book a month this year until I complete the challenge, that’s it. Then I changed my mind and decided I couldn’t request anything until after I had read 3. So basically, read three, request one. Then, I’ve gotten auto approved for like 5 and wanted to pull my hair out. It’s like “No!! Stop!! My ratio sucks already!”

      1. CurvyJones

Yah Harlequin messed around and put me on the auto approval list. I might have gone a little nuts. O_o. I actually have 7 books I need to review for NG but they’e spaced between now and May. I have more through Edelweiss. I’ve resorted to an excel spreadsheet to track everything.

I read 50+ books a year so it should not be a problem to kick up my ratio. This challenge is a great idea!

  9. CurvyJones

Where can I get your nifty sidebar goal graph thingy…… very technical term… that shows how many books you’ve reviewed so far. I’m up to 3!

      1. CurvyJones

OH I saw that plug in and bookmarked it. It’s on my list of awesome things to add to my blog. Thanks!!!

        1. It is the most awesome plugin in the world and seriously the reason I moved my blog to WordPress. The other one under it that is the Netgalley challenge progress is an addon for the main plugin. It might seem a bit pricey, but seriously, it’s been amazing. It does so much and converting all my old reviews to the plugin really didn’t take as long as I thought it would. I love how functional it is. I also have her tweak me theme, but I haven’t decided what I want the next layout to look like (colors mostly) so I haven’t started messing with it, but I am so excited to. Her plugins and themes are just amazing and they cover so much and are so customizable.

Just discovered this and joining in… forgive me if this is a silly question, but do you have any smaller banners? I’m trying to add it to my sidebar but it’s too wide. I thought maybe I could just edit the width “number” but that doesn’t seem to be working. (I don’t know anything about this, clearly haha)

Anyway, love this challenge! I’m very determined to recover my ratio, which is abysmal.

    1. Welcome to the challenge!

      That is so weird!

and then changing the “000” to what you need SHOULD work, but if it’s not, just tell me what size you need and I can resize it for you no problem. <3

      1. Kim Maule

Thank you for replying! I think Typepad just goes about everything in a not always logical way. Combine that with my lack of technical knowledge and it’s not always good! I finally figured out that I can add it to my sidebar as an image (no coding needed) so i was able to resize the image, insert it as a sidebar image, and link it to your blog.

I’m excited about this challenge! I definitely need to get through a lot of NetGalley reviews ASAP – this is the perfect motivation.

        1. I’m glad it worked out!

I totally made the challenge for that reason. My ratio us horrible, I had to do something and I knew I couldn’t be the only one in this boat so I decided to share it. Good luck!

Hi! I just joined. I started back on Netgalley a couple weeks ago and this will help me keep up with things! Thanks!

We’ve actually already had someone finish their hardcore challenge! Can you believe that awesomeness?! I am so totally late at getting this posted… it should’ve been up on the 1st. Between my pregnancy and my sister in town for a long visit, I am totally scatterbrained. Sorry! If you want to participate, feel free to sign up. […]
